Summer

Peeling out of Maddy’s pink dress is the second most physically satisfying experience of the evening. First place belongs to Christopher in that elevator. Actually, scratch that. That was nothing but very, very frustrating. Honestly, if something doesn’t give soon, I’m going to lose my mind or hump a bell boy.

I take out my contacts and wipe all the makeup off I put on to complement Maddy’s look. When I crawl into bed with my glasses and Garfield pajamas on, I finally feel like me again. My laptop completes the picture. I do what I do and check in on all my stuff, from view counts on my videos to my email and social media. The views on the video we aired last night about their championship season makes my jaw drop. It’s surpassed the million-view mark in a little over twenty-four hours. The video I uploaded this morning of the banner raising ceremony and home opener win has already hit 200k.

Holy moly.

It takes a notification on my phone to make me look away.

Christopher: Hey, are you still up?

I’m not surprised he’s texting me after what just went down. I’m also not surprised by the smile I’m sporting.

Summer: Yes :)

Christopher: What are you doing?

I could tell him the truth, but it’s a little bit embarrassing to admit that I check the views on my videos. Plus, I’d rather have a little bit of fun with him, so I rewind time.

Summer: Getting undressed.

Christopher: SUMMER GUNDERSON.

That makes me laugh. I shut my laptop and toss it to the other side of the bed.

Summer: What? It’s not like I was going to sleep in that dress. It belongs to Maddy.

Christopher: Remind me to send her a thank you note.

Summer: You’re funny.

Christopher: You’re beautiful.

Summer: You’re not too bad yourself, Big Mac.

Christopher: *Chris*

Summer: What are you doing?

Christopher: Talking to you.

Summer: We’re not talking, we’re texting.

My phone starts to ring. Dear lord, he wants to video chat. Shit. I sit up in bed, pull my hair out of a ponytail, and shake it out. There’s nothing else I can do to help this situation, except for ignoring him altogether, but I don’t want to do that. I want to talk to him and I especially want to see him, so I stop wasting time and answer.

“Hi,” I chirp and then thank the gods of technology for putting cameras in telephones because I get to see Christopher MacCormack shirtless and leaning against the headboard like a freakin’ model.

He smiles like a goof and replies, “I’m glad to see the Garfield PJs again.”

“Why do I think you’re lying?” I tease.

“I mean, obviously I wouldn’t mind seeing you in nothing at all, but I love you like that too. And you know I’m charmed by those glasses. I told you that back at the loft.”

“I seriously don’t understand you.”

“I’m a simple man, Gunderson,” he says and runs his fingers through his gorgeous black hair.

“Nothing about us is simple, Big Mac.”

“What’s a guy got to do to be called Chris
